Houston Arab Community for Mutual Aid (HACMA)
On May 9th, the Houston Arab Community Mutual Aid Coalition came together to serve over 470 people in the Arab community in Houston with a grocery/household item drive thru/delivery service. We provided 150 families with basic groceries, including flour, rice, sugar, water and many other items.
With the outbreak of the coronavirus, members of the Houston Arab and Arab American community, including the Syrian American Club, banded together to organize coronavirus relief efforts for our community.
We created a Mutual Aid Form to evaluate the needs of our most vulnerable community members. We concluded that the most immediate need that we could fill is grocery/household item drive thru/delivery because it will help alleviate some financial burdens.
In order to better achieve filling the gaps in our community, we have created the following forms and ask for your participation:
1. We put together a form in both Arabic and English to find out who in our community needs help
2. We put together a form for volunteering and donations. (If you are a professional and have services you can provide, please use this form.)
We also created a link to a resource guide that can assist our community in finding resources related to coronavirus and government assistance.
If you have any questions or need to reach the coalition at any time, please contact: hacma.tx@gmail.com
